Letter from Hunter & Yervand

Hi Everyone,

In this fragile time, many of us are confused, worried, and unsure about most things going on in Armenia right now. Internal tensions are high, geopolitics are swiftly shifting in the region, and over 100,000 refugees now in Armenia are in need of dire support.

With one of our main goals at Mother Armenia being to get the diaspora more involved with Armenia, we decided to start covering events going on in Armenia through our newsletter. We want to reduce the feelings of confusion and ambiguity for all of our readers and hope that as Armenians, we can focus on doing things that matter and becoming an active diaspora, not wondering about what’s going on.

We hope you find this read insightful, and encourage you to stay tuned for future posts as events unfold in the coming days/weeks. Stay strong and stay focused.

🚩 Over 100,000 Refugees Enter Armenia from Artsakh

As of September 29, over 85% (100,417 Armenians) of the Artsakh population have entered Armenia through the Lachin corridor. Many of these Armenians left a significant amount of their belongings behind, and most families only have one cars-worth of materials.

This follows an illegal nine-month blockade of Artsakh that saw civilians starved and deprived of essentials like self-care equipment, medical goods, and other basic living necessities.

After talking with journalists and individuals in Goris, Mother Armenia has identified that many refugees need:

  • Housing (the greatest need by far)

  • Warm clothing, especially for the upcoming winter

  • At a lesser priority, educational materials for students as they start school in Armenia

Right now, we’re looking for ways to help solve the issues listed above for refugees in Goris and other nearby regions.

🕊️ Degree Signed: The Republic of Artsakh will Cease to Exist come January 1, 2024

The President of The Republic of Artsakh, Samvel Shahramanyan, signed a decree calling for the dissolution of all state institutions and government departments.

Azerbaijan had long been clear about the “Armenian Question” confronting the Armenians of Artsakh, specifically, the question of obtaining Azerbaijani citizenship or leaving Artsakh altogether. The vast majority have decided to abandon their ancestral lands rather than come to the Azerbaijani yolk.

Artsakh’s fall is Baku’s triumph; Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev announced that the army had “punished the enemy properly” and that sovereignty has been restored “with an iron first.”

Shahramanyan, President of the Republic of Artsakh, signed the decree in response to the overwhelming opposition. It was made clear that if the Azerbaijani conditions were not met, the offense would continue “until the end.”

👩🏻‍🍼Last Child Born In Artsakh named Vrej

During the mass exodus of Armenians fleeing Artsakh, the last male infant born in Artsakh was named Vrej, (english translation: vengeance).

Fundraising Update

To date, Mother Armenia is raising a total of $655.58 USD each month with a breakdown as follows:

Mother Armenia has not engaged in any formal marketing campaigns yet, but as we lock in a new project this week, add more schools to our chromebook project and lock in ways to have an effect on the refugees in Goris, we’ll engage in a large scale marketing campaign to increase our MRR (monthly recurring revenue) to have a larger impact on Armenia.
