Laptops to Students Project Complete

Read about how we executed our first project in Sevan, Gegharkunik by delivering four laptops to a school in need.

Key Points

  • 💻 Mother Armenia delivered four (4) windows laptops to K-12 school No. 6 in Sevan, Gegharkunik on August 21, 2023, doubling the school’s existing computer inventory.

  • 📈 The school’s 150 students now have improved access to current technology.

  • 💵 Over $1,350 dollars were raised for the project.

  • 🥳 This was Mother Armenia’s first successful project!

Finding a Recipient School

We considered ten schools from various regions across Armenia, and looked at the schools’ existing funding, technology, and interviewed their principals and teachers. These actions helped us determine the impact that bringing four laptops to the school would have on the students’ futures and technical literacy.

Out of these ten schools, we found School No. 6 in Sevan, Gegharkunik to be the best fit for the project.

  • One of our partner organizations, Armenia School Foundation, worked with school No. 6 in the past and referred us, therefore establishing proof and trust within the schools admin.

  • School No. 6 has a sizable student population of 150 students.

  • The school’s existing inventory of four computers showed us that the school has fundamental knowledge and understanding of technology.

Getting Laptops to Armenia

Getting laptops to Armenia was another challenge. While finding that shipping into Armenia was relatively expensive, we also found that shipping brand new laptops internationally was a risk in itself.

Instead of shipping internationally, we focused on a domestic solution and talked with Greg Krikorian from one of our partner organizations, HyeHopes, another Armenian non-profit that focuses exclusively on bringing technology to schools. Greg referred us to his long-time supplier, Ideatec, who not only had new laptops already in stores throughout Armenia but also offered free delivery anywhere in the country.

After multiple calls with Ideatec, the lower total cost and reliable domestic shipping led us to confirm our order with Ideatec.

Once we reached our funding goal, we commissioned the last wire transfer of $1,280 USD on August 22, 2023 to Ideatec from our non-profit bank account. Although scary at first seeing our donors’ funds leaving our bank account, within a few days, Art had delivered the laptops to School No. 6 in Sevan.
